Some nail trends are cool, some are gorgeous, and some are just straight up weird. This year, evil eye nails are huge, and I’d say they definitely fall into the weird category.

Because I’m into a lot of spiritual stuff, I love the idea of evil eye nails. However, there are so many different ways to do a manicure that includes evil eyes!

What Is The Evil Eye?

The evil eye is a belief that has been around for thousands of years. It started in Mesopotamia and then spread to to India and other cultures. Today, almost every culture has some traditional form of the evil eye.

Traditionally, the evil eye is a curse believed to be cast by a malevolent glare, usually given to a person when they are unaware. This can be as simple as an enemy glaring at you and thinking negative thoughts. The idea is that the energy will soon manifest in your life, whether or not they actually intended to curse you.

This curse is thought to result in some form of negative consequence (for example, financial or physical) for the victim; however, the specific nature of the evil deed may vary.

Evil eye charms and symbols typically aim to deter such negative energy. When you wear an evil eye, the eye catches the negative energy, and the idea is that the charm (whether it’s a bracelet, ring, or something else) will break when it successfully diverts a curse away from you. So if your charm breaks, this means it worked.

However, folks are enthralled by evil eye nails right now. Though evil eye nails aren’t exactly a charm, I would assume that they would work the same way. If your nail painted with an eye breaks, you know what that means!

How To Do Evil Eye Nails:

If you see a technician regularly, you should have no trouble asking for evil eye nails. Simply show them one of the example photos below.

Most of these evil eye nails for inspiration are super easy to do! It’s simply a few dots. However, some of the manicures (specifically the ones with a lot of other designs) are more complicated, so you may want to talk with your technician ahead of time.

To do evil eye nails at home, paint your base color and cure it. Next, use a round tool for your eye dots that has three sizes. Start with the largest size (and cure the paint in between) before working your way down to the smallest.

Finally, topcoat! This is the final step that really makes this look come together smoothly. Apply your shiny topcoat as usual – just be gentle so you don’t smear your design!

You can use a clear dip powder to protect your nails, or your can simply use a regular or gel coat after your evil eye nails have dried to finish the manicure.

Ta da! Now you have some bad-ass nails perfect for casual life or any event. Don’t be surprised if people ask where you got your nails done (you can even use this as an excuse to go out and treat yourself!)

Where To Buy Press On Evil Eye Nails:

I love press-on nails, however I don’t recommend that you head out to your local CVS or Walgreens and purchase a set. To be honest, those kinds of press on nails aren’t very good.

Instead, try buying press on nails or eye stickers from Etsy. They have some really amazing options from various sellers and the nails are high quality.

If you opt for press on nails, you can always cut and file them yourself to fit the current nail shape trend. I like to buy press-on nails on Etsy, but I use this glue to get them to stick for a good long while.

Etsy has both press-on nails and evil eye nail stickers, so you can choose what works for you.
